I did ask the question on here and on ed38 about the gap and was told it is normal with coilovers, went straight through the mot no issues, car is still running the same gap now and has been like it for over a year so I think it is ok and nothing to worry about.

Is it also normal for the top plate to move when you turn? Also the nut only just goes on with a mm or half a mm or thread on top.

No the top plate should not move, I think you may have put them together wrong.

If you check out this thread you will see the guide I did: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=68845.0 if you look at the picture of mine before I fitted you will see how I put it together.

Just remember I have this pic of one of my top plates:

See what I mean about the gap, I'll check tomorrow to see if I have my plate move when turning it for you. Doesn't sound right mind you

Just to confirm if it is specifically the VR6 one thats needed, would it be:

Part number 45737 - STRUT TOP MOUNTING   G3 VR6 1/92 >12/97    Thats required?

Thanks. I presume these are different to both the early and late model GTI versions?
