What exactly is the VW "book"?
« on: 04 April 2009, 12:25 »
I know it's the book used to get the prices on cars for a part-ex, but which one do they use?

I'm only asking as the VW dealers can't seem to find my car!!! LOL!!
However, a private dealer could ;) (and a very nice p/ex price too! - shame the car sold :( )

Got me panicking actually - so much so, that I've just contacted both the DVLA & HPI to double check my details. Thankfully, ALL is ok :)

They normally use Glasses guide, but some dealers or more to the point salesmen are thick and don't know how to use it!! I bet you drive a GTi TDi of some description as they always struggle to value those  :undecided:

Thought so :)
And nothing as complicated as a GT Tdi - it's an Audi S4 Avant

LOL

Thanks for confirming my thoughts :)

Giving the value of one of those should be easy enough. Why are dealers such hard work!!!

As said in the top post, an independent dealer has already offered me a very nice P/ex price. so I know that it can be done. It's just the VW lot

Typical slag off a dealer bullsh#t. If a dealer cant find your car they mean on dialog. Its vws database that holds all info on uk cars since about 1983 onwards. If its not on there then it is probably an import. The glass guide gives an overview on all cars and is as it says a GUIDE!!

The reason why I was slagging off the dealer network is  -

1. The whole concept of what they were looking for was never explained. The term "book" was never explained. Several other dealers couldn't work out which book I was referring too
2. On the basis that they couldn't find the car, they didn't go ANY further in TRYING - now as a purchaser/customer, I EXPECT them to at least FIND the car. After all, it is THEIR sale.
3. I expect that the most basic of common courtesy be honoured in the form of a phone call  I have never had any returned phone calls regarding this. I've even been to the dealers in question to speak to a salesman about this. They wouldn't even come to talk to me - fobbing me off that they were busy, and they would call me back..... still waiting
3. I've now tried 4 different VW dealers, all of which have either not returned phone-calls, emails etc.

So far my experience of VW dealers has been absolutely fcuking awful (with exception of Cheltenham VW  ) - poor customer service with non-existent sales care (they just don't care)

What I find intriguing is that surely all motor traders work from the same pricing details..... so why can independent dealers find the car, but not VW????

But thank you for your valuable input caddy vantastic - I can see that you'll be somebody to watch on this website....... and ignore. There's no need to be so derisive about a genuine query.

Cock. I pointed out that as with all forums these days everyone generalises main dealers. Not every single one is the same. Im not a person to avoid infact im much the opposite and have helped numerous people on this forum and as far as south africa and canada with vw enquiries and been able to help them. But hey your life. Your narrow minded opinion. And just to point out i slagged off your opinion and not you.

Keep going sunshine - the only person looking bad here is you.
I haven't resorted to name calling and insults towards other members, so with all due respect, I will avoid.

Dealer experiences HAVE to be based on case-by-case. So far (with exception of one), they've been pretty woeful. Fact.

I'm not going to get into a slanging match with you - my time's far more important.
