nice one jam - which broker you use?

my spec is:

Metallic Paint ( Deep Black Pearl )
18" Monzas
Xenons
ACC
RCD510
Lux pack
Park Assist with Rear View Camera
3 yr service pack
12 months road tax

£25k OTR, £1.9k off list (7% off) - but I can live with that

mini update - the broker forgot metallic paint on the finance quote, so its 412 pm not 395

Brokered, sorry figure of speech. Dealt with a dealer, though did bargain with some internet prices.

Ok lets break it down. The deal I am getting is a lease deal (or contract hire as its known). Very similar to hiring a vehicle over a set period of time. In my case its 2yrs, 3yr deals seem to be the most common at the moment.

So my deal breaks down like this. Its 29 payments in total (6 + 23)

£1434 + vat - which is the deposit.

Followed by 23 monthly payments of £239 + vat.

So including the VAT the total cost of the car over 2 yrs is = £7970.65

Without the VAT which i get back = £6931

So all in all I am paying £288.79 pm (worked out over 24 months) for a brand new GTi, 5dr Manual. Now the car I believe lists at £23k.

There are no fees to pay at the end of the lease. Only cost would be excess milage if you go over 20k over the 2yrs. This would be changed at 0.06p per mile. So £60 for every 1000miles. Not bad I would say.

Thats a great deal.  It definitley helps to keep the spec to a minimum when financing.

I use PCP but have considered PCH due to the lower monthly payments and car tax is paid (worthwhile on an R32!!).

My only concerns with PCH are :

1.  Insurance - Can you still get decent quotes (I pay less than £500 for my R32 on PCP).  DO all insurance companies accept PCH cars as you are not the legal owner I believe, nor are you on the V5 ?

2.  What would happen if you had to give the car back early due to unforeseen circumstances ?  How much would you have to pay in penalties ?

Current : Seat Cupra Lux, DSG, Magnetic Grey, Sept 2019
Gone :    Golf Mk 7 R, 5dr DSG, Pure White, March 2017
Gone :    Golf Mk 7 R, 5dr DSG, Tornado Red, March 2015
Gone :    Audi RS3, Daytona Grey, 7sp S-Tronic, Sept 2012
Gone :    Golf R, Rising Blue, 5dr DSG Mar 2010
Gone :    Golf R32, DBP, 5dr, DSG, Nov 2008
Gone :    Golf GTi ED30, Mar 2007

1. Correct. Your not the legal owner of the car, but you are the registered keeper. Some insurance companies wont be interested but if you use a decent broker than you will find quotes for maybe just a little more than what your currently paying.

2. Not too sure about that situation. I would imagine that the finance company depending on what you leased would probably work with you on that one as they always seem willing to listen whenever I have called them previously. Ideally its not a situation you want to be in. Hence the reason I went and got myself a new lease rather than trying to continue my current one.... which will instantly save me £150pm!! not a bad saving for getting myself a brand new car

ave always wondered about these lease hire things, have fully spec'd a scirocco (same platform as the golf) to my wants and all the deals i get are sh!t.

This is including a listed price on the config tool of around 22,500 yet the dealer i wanted to talk to said my car was the deposit, and monthly price was closer to £500 a month.

Can someone provide a more detailed breakdown at all?

Good deals are a b!tch to get now,

Internet : 2 cheapest are Dealdrivers and Broadspeed..

Dealdrivers do not have any more cars available now till after the 1st Sept, and will only accept orders on the price increase from this date. Broadspeed are a little more expensive but wont give you as much of a 'deal' if you want scrappage.

Verdict : Dealdrivers can I disagree, Broadspeed would be my choice, should still get 10% discount from them if no scrappage.

Dealers :

I've never seen any dealer so far match the Internet for prices, some come close, from what I gather top discount seems to be around 7% with an average of around 5%. Then that 5% you were saving will be taken from your hand come 1st Sept, you will from then on be paying full price for the GTI. Then come the extra 2.5% VAT added 31st Dec.

Verdict : For the love of god, buy now !

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Kev, from reading back on the forum, you've been talking about getting a car since about April.

For the love of God, have you ordered yet?

I know I said it before, but I got a discount of £1,945 in addition to the £2,000 scrappage deal.  Is that sort of thing not achievable now?  This was less than 2 weeks ago.
