Remaps and warranties...
« on: 02 April 2009, 18:35 »
So it seems to be a very grey area, would an r-tech remap void a warranty? Im sure it would, but just want to check.

have a read of the thread below, you are correct in saying its a grey area and when you PM'd me about it, i was in no way fobbing you off to try to sell the car, i have been about on here for a while so ask around if you are uncertain  as i said the dealer i use has been told and didnt have an issue with it, that said you can get the car reflashed back to standard map very easily, but to be honest when you have a go you wont want to!

Not neccessarily, as most decent tuners now reset the flash counter each time a map (std or otherwise) is uploaded via the OBD2 port.

The only company I know that provide some form of warranty in the event that a dealer fuses a claim due to a remap is superchips.

When the car gets remapped we have the option to zero the flash counter or revert it back the setting prior to there map. The remap wont show up on the dealers tools because the software code is the same as the std mapping, If the dealers could see the remap RSA key and checksumm then they could for deffo say it has been remapped. If they wanted to dig deep to void a warranty claim they could log the requested output values and compare with another car, or even test drive the car.

I tell all my customers the remap could void a warranty, I also tell my customers to be honest with there dealers and tell themthe car has been remapped, this way they will work with you, because at the end of the day they get paid to carry out warranty work.
