Wasnt there a thread knocking around off the seat forum. A guy with a car on lease had it mapped, seat found it when the engine failed and the guy was forced to repay the car, excess and repair costs! The remap company claimed it was undetectable but they noticed immediately!

Best to be honest, If the dealers have a good reason to think the car has been remapped then they will find out one way or another.   I have a customer with a  2008 VW Transporter T5 174bhp which I remapped which keeps having silly faults with the engine, the dealer knows the van has been remapped to 205bhp but they continue to carry out the repairs under warranty. If the the turbo blows, or gear box fecks up it could be another story, but because the customer is not trying to pull the wool over the dealers eyes I can see the dealer working with the owner if the turbo goes bang.

I would expect it is dealer dependent as well.

I dont think there is a black and white answer. I know someone who had a manifold on their car, didnt tell insurance, crashed and they didnt pay out. I know of someone who did something similar and got a payout (through a forum)

If you want to take the risk you may be lucky or you may not. I agree with the more honest you are the better chance you stand.

Give your local dealer a call and ask, they may be ok with it and offer you a guarantee in writing with the map? Cant hurt!

Good post! I think it sums it up in one.

Take a risk or be honest... :undecided:
