help finding something!
« on: 02 April 2009, 18:10 »
I've fitted my hella quads today but the cables on the lights have flat connectors (old type?) And my car wiring is a square block.

I'm guessing there must be a convertor cable available but who from?

Thanks for that and it looks like they do but at $40 plus whatever the shipping is it's not worth it!!

If that's the price i'll sell them to someone with an early type of connector

I'mnot going to cut my harness to fit them either.....

Pick up a set of the old connectors with a small part of the wiring, chop you old ones off and resolder together, will be fine have done it loads of times.

Not sure I want to be cutting the cars main harness about to be honest, I'd rather sell them on and buy a set that will just plug straight in.

Makes it much easier to return to standard when I sell the car on in the future...

My Hellas plugged straight in, but I would not worry about changing the plugs, have done loads of Vectras the same way with no issues.

I'm guessing the plugs you have are the ones on the right but the Hellas have the plugs on the left?

In which case, these would be no good, and they don't do them the other way around, so the only thing you can do (if you don't wanna chop your current loom) is replace the loom with another one. It's easy enough to change, just unplug the headlights, indicators, fog lights and horn, then if you look above the radiator, attatched to the slam panel is the wiring connector block, twist that and pull it apart, and then trace all the wires back, disconnecting them from all the clips etc. Refitting is reversal of removal, lol.

Now this is funny and embarrassing all at the same time   :embarassed:

I took another look this morning to see if i fancied chopping the loom and found that the hellas have a convertor cable like the ones above in VR6-Joe's post already plugged into them, so in other words they have obviously come out of an old car and have the convertors plugged into the lights for the old style wiring.

All i had to do was unplug the convertors and then plug my harness in

So i now have fully working lights   :embarassed:
