If you meen i have to prove myself and want to race everything on the planet, drive like an idiot like i see just about every Mk5 GTI driver in the north east seems to want too, especially DSG ones in rush hour for some reason. Then no i will no longer class myself as a true GTI driver I am actually becoming ashamed of been associated with the mk5 GTI it seems the c0cks have moved from BMWs to Audis and now to mk5 GTIs.
I have always owned GTIs since the late 80s and currently own 2 mk1's, a Mk2 and a mk5.
It seems the mk5 has attracted the ford+vauxhall+BMW crowd/driver.

Is that  directed towards me or to the guy who replied?
It was directed at no one Individual, It was a general reply about alot of what i see on the road and read from Mk5 owners on the net....

to say that all Mk5 gti owners drive like c0cks is an amazingly sweeping statement and quite unfair. It's like saying the Mk3 golf is like a boat to drive. Well it isn't is it. Does it float, have a keel and rudder?

All the Mk5 drivers I've seen (mainly down south and some around the chester area) do not behave any different to other drivers on the road. Also take into consideration that top gear is an entertainment programme and anything they say should be classed as entertainment and not factual.

Claiming that all audi drivers are c0cks on national tv does not make it true. I think people should have enough sense not to take clarkson seriously and treat everything he says as a joke or entertainment.

Just my 2p worth.

Its not really fair to say the MK6 Golf GTi is underpowered given that it is more powerful than its predecessor and has lower emissions as well as better fuel economy. It is of course underpowered compared to its competition though, especially at the price it costs to buy. Remember the R20T will come behind it to boost the power stakes though.

It is fair to say its overpriced though. A basic car with no options is £23k. I was at my local VW stealer and they were saying how they would only have one as a demo purely because the price is as high that they dont think it will be a big seller at all, especially with the likes of the facelift Leon Cupra with 240bhp and latterly 265bhp costing a few thousand less. One would have to expect the R20T to be closer to £30k which will carry a premium over even the Focus RS, and therefore pit it directly against its cousin, the S3.

Currently have a mkV GTi Owned from new. Ordered a MkVI GTi as soon as I could. No regrets whatsoever. As to you smoking my MKVI from the lights.... Ide enjoy you trying. As you'll only catch mine standard for about the 1st week as I run it in. Then it'll be straight off for the remap 3" downpipe decat. It also helps I have a good relationship with local dealer. As they seem to turn a blind eye to my "Aftermarket modifcations" when it comes to warrenty work. But you'll find me at most vwaudi meets if any of you use the forum and quite a few trackdays so you can come try
