The way I read it is that NO, it is not the same the same engine as the S3 e.g. detuned
And
It is also not the same engine as the std GTi with a remap and a bigger turbo

I THINK it sort of sits somewhere in between with a number of shared components with both engines. The S3 engine does have a number of uprated parts that the ED30/Pirelli do not have -

See this info below taken from another forum :

Configuration 1,984 cc (121.1 cu in) water cooled inline 4, based on the naturally aspirated 2.0 FSI

Cylinders bore × stroke 82.5 × 92.8 mm (0.89 rati), 496 cc/cylinder, 10.5:1 compression ratio./ (10.3:1 compression a3 cabrio 2009)

Head four-valve, low-friction roller cam follower drive, modified inlet duct geometry for high tumble values providing superior knock resistance, continuous intake camshaft adjustment

Fuel system Gasoline, Fuel Stratified Injection, up to 110 bar

Aspiration 0.9 bar boost turbocharger, intercooler, variable plastic controlled intake manifold with charge movement flaps adjusted by a continuous-action pilot motor

You also had SEAT say
A quote from SEAT from the launch of there leon cupra.
"The new 240 PS 2.0-litre T FSI engine has been considerably uprated compared with the Leon FR’s 200 PS version, on which it is based. Modifications include a larger turbocharger, reinforced pistons and engine block, strengthened connecting rods, a new ultra heat-resistant alloy for the cylinder head, plus larger injectors"

Last time he was 'away' for a few months he came back and resurected all the posts since he was last here....

Think he's like the borg.  He needs to regenerate now and then but the rest of the time he's a relentless forum arguing machine.
