advice on coilovers

hay ppl.

i wanting to lower my golf but not shure what coilovers t buy?
ive got a budget of about £250
has anybody knw what colies i should buy?

my car has got 18" rs4s on. so what would be a good level to lower it to?
45"? 60"? any ideas.

its a golf gti mk4 1.8t 1998 will this effect anything with it being 1 ov the 1st 1ns?

£250 will get you a budget coilover kit (assuming you want new and not 2nd hand). All the budget kits are pretty much the same so you might as well just get the hottuning ones from here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=103405.0

40mm is about the right drop. Low enough to look good, not low enough to cause any problems. You can achieve that kind of drop though with a decent spring and shock setup.. and you'll get something much better quality for your £250 than a set of cheap coilovers.

i had coilovers on mine but took em off and got springs instead, much smoother!

is it true that youll get more tyre rub on the arches with a shock/spring kit?

just tell em what model yours is and they'll send em out in about aweek, worth changing the top mounts and bearings aswell, gfs is best for those, £20 ish quid for the lot

225 40 18's on mine and no rub on springs with a  40mm drop

so basically i just need these springs to lower the car to 40mm?? how come theyre so cheap?

Coilovers are adjustable  you can have a 5mm drop or a 75mm drop

I have had a few sets of coillies and i dont like em now, its not as easy as it sounds to wind them up and down. You have to clearcote them everytime you adjust the suspension and needs lots of servicing.

I have a 50mm drop on 19s and it does not catch
