Can anyone assist?
I have a sony head unit - radio and tape in my Golf, which i need to remove, so i can fit a new unit.
Problem is, i dont have the removal rods that you need to extract the unit. Can it be done?
Cheers

Of course! Get two tiny screw drivers/big paper clips/stiff wire/anything less than 2mm in diameter made of non bendy metal, stick them down the sides of the head unit and push the retaining clips out. The whole thing will slide out with a bit of a tug. You can do one side at a time.
I took the sony HU out of my MK3 recently using this method. Takes a bit of trial and error to fing exactly where the clips are but works. I pulling the bits of dash trim out from either side gives a bit more space. Both just pop out quite easily.

the mk3 headunit can be removed (and stolen) without keys. Just remove the 4 screws and pull the whole lot out with the headunit still in it's cage still attached to the plastic with the air ducts on. the design is so lame
