Was in my dads car once and managed to do 55miles after being told the car was empty. He would have kicked my a$$ if he had found out, as like alanD he has a phobia about it running out of juice.

To him the orange light means drive directly to filling station, do not pass go, do not stop to collect £200

To me getting into the red zone of the tank level means "OH sh!t YOUR GOING TO BREAK DOWN AND DIE BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, GET TO A PETROL STATION NOW !!!!!!!"

I think there is a fair bit still in even when the light comes on.Remember on top gear when they went from some were in europe to blackpool on one tank hammond & clarkson did it even tho they were showing no fuel in the tanks & clarkson did a trip from london to the top of scotland & back in a big oil burning Audi & managed.

I remember that, saw it recently on my daily Dave watch. He drove something silly like 50 miles with the computer saying 0 miles left. Great quote he made "I wonder if Audi realised they have created the first car that runs on air".

Thing with me is I fear getting stuck in traffic (accident, road works, road closures) which living in London, happens quite a bit. Getting stuck in traffic that isn't moving when you have "0" miles left is NOT good.

I did just over 30 miles on Sunday morning! I had been working Saturday night and just wanted to get to bed and couldn't be bothered to fill up! That was all motorway miles and in my Mk5 R32, I will never do it again!

Yeah, it shouldn't do any damage, but if you let it run seriously low you get all the junk and sh!t that can accumulate at the bottom going through the system which obviously wont be doing any good.
