MK3 - The boot and speakers, opinions pointers.

I have 6x9s atm on the parcel shelf. Shelf is saging badly and as a result i get horrible rattling noises, and one of the shelves it lies on is loose and rattles about.

I have a replacement shelf, but i dont wana put 6x9s in it (cahvy in my opinion) and they will end up saging again anyway. So any ideas on where these 6x9s could go?

I was thinging to put them into the shelfs at the side (just like them ultra rare ones in a post not long ago) but thats all i can come up with atm!

Also the plastic shelf that supports the parcel shelf, how can i secure this down better, one of them is really loose and im abit clueless at the minute to how to better secure it.

Mods i posted here because i thought it was more a mk3 question then an audio matter!

The side shelves in mine are rock solid, but as I remember just clip into place, possible some plastic nuts or something too, so worth checking yours are sitting right if they're rattling.

I think mounting the 6x9's there is your best bet if you don't want to fork out for a stealth shelf. You could always reinforce your standard one to stop it sagging though.

You could cut out speaker holes in the side shelves & do a really tidy job fitting them so the look standard or just mount them underneath, maybe even drill small holes in the surface to let the sound through?! :)

yeh, the plastic shelf does click into place proply, its sits right, but you can still move it too easily, There is one of them rubber gromit things missing, but that doesnt keep it in place as the plastic from the shelf doesnt cover that hole!!

I fink im going to DIY the playstic shelves for the 6x9s, i think it could look good (if its a nice job)

Don't understand why this was moved!! It was a MK3 question and where to put things not ICE

Personally I dont think the standard side pieces are:-

1. large enough to fit 6x9's

2. sturdy enough.

I would go with a stealth shelf if you dont want them on show.
Beefing up your standard one would be easy with some bits of mdf and some good glue! Plus the odd screw in the right location.

Best thing you could do though is think about having a wheel arch sub!

Yeah looking at it in a bit more depth, the side shelves would definatly not house my 6x9s. Im seriously tempted to buy some up-rated door speakers to go in the back doors and be rid of the 6x9s, but i would need to do a bit of wiring for them as my models only an L. I have a fly enclousur sub in the boot atm, i'd rather keep the parcel shelf untouched as it is new condition (my 2nd one that is). The one in atm is bent too much to get back into shape i rekon. Hmm will have to have a think...

Amped components in the front and amped sub in the boot, nothing else is needed and rear speakers are a waste as you sit in the front.

I have always thought my car sounded better with speakers in the back tbh. And im not bothered about the ICE side of things i just want ideas of where to put my 6x9s.

I always thought that until I did the whole amp setup but now I have done it the system sounds so much better!

Doesn't have to cost a lot either (I raided ebay for my kit second hand or end of line stuff)

However if you really want to stick to 6 by 9s then a re-inforced or stealth shelf are the only sensible options imo!
