My Idea!
« on: 18 March 2009, 22:26 »
Why I was asking a question in another thread!

Would like to put some 2.5 inch mid/tweeters in the dash. Run those off the front channels of the H/U.
Then using a small amp use that to power the door speakers which are currently 3 ways!

Why I was wondering how big a speaker would fit in the dash.

Only comment would be that without using a crossover for the dash mounted tweeters, they are going to be trying to play the bass also which might mean distortion on high volumes.

The gain I hope is by replacing the standard dash tweeters with a mid/tweeter I will get a more balanced sound, up at face level.
Plus I am gaining by the amping of the front door speakers.

I have a similar set up in the Mi16 but in that the mid/tweeters take the front channel from H/U and some 6x9 3 ways in front doors take the rear channels. (shelf 7x10's and sub run off 4 channel amp)

But that wouldnt be a tweeter crossover as I would want mid range as well.

You could use a 3 way cross over and just take the mid and high outputs from it for your new dash mounted speakers (ignoring the low output as your amp will be providing that in the door speakers).

The only issue I see with that setup is that you'll get mid range and high sounds from both your dash speakers and your door speakers, so you'll get a lot more high end, but you can balance that up with the head unit's EQ to you taste.

kind of like what im planing on doing len. im going to remove the dash tweeters, and if you measure, the hole there is big enough to take 10cm speakers. so i will be puttin 10cm speakers in them, keeping the 16.5cm ones in the dorrs, then i will have 2 tweeters in each A-piller.
