UPDATE

big thanks to Dai-Cymru (again!)

solved my boost leak - guess i'll never learn from past mistakes - forgot to swap the o-rings off the old pipe onto the new Forge Pipe  :embarassed:

so boost leak solved BUT possibly another even larger problem spotted - oil in the intercooler

that normally means that a seal is going somewhere and the likely candidate - TURBO

i'm starting to give up to be honest - if my turbo goes it will be a standard one going on - i'm not going to chase more power as i can't be doing with the pitfalls it leads too

Glad thats fixed bud

You think the mods may have killed the turbo? still got that vibration then?

its a possibility - engine has done nearly 100K and its run the last 18K at much higher boost levels

still got the vibration but the power band it is in appears to be less  :undecided:  need to run it for a few days and see how we go

at this point in time i'm pretty gutted to say the least

Feel for you bud  Fingers crossed its a cheap fix.

well i've found this thread

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/246330/1594620.aspx#1594620

and after speaking to Mr Dave it sounds like i've over-reacted a little bit - there wasn't huge amounts of oil in the intercooler

just going to keep an eye on it and possibly get the intercooler cleaned out

dunno if you've got access to any but I cleaned my new intercooler out with acetone, worked a treat

I wouldn't worry about a bit of oil in the intercooler, the 1.8T seems to keep the oil rather than burning it off like most turbod cars I've owned/worked on. You'd know about it if the seals/bearings go, I filled up a field with smoke when mine went

I couldn't get the clip to go back in above the sensor to stop it popping straight out.  Took about 10 minutes!

must be different to yours then - the clip pulls DOWN on mine - was able to refit the sensor and then refit the clip - sensor stayed put
