mk2 16v running issues

the car is new to me but it has a low rev irregularity. Its running regular unleaded and is an '87 on kjet. There are no apparent air leaks and it has a new set of plugs. The revs are rougher between 1500-2500 but it still pulls near enough like id expect. It starts fine and idles well enough
Any ideas?
I plan to take it to Vince but Id like to iron out anything obvious first

New plugs, but how old are the leads, dizzi cap and arm?
Unless you've replaced them then you've not really started on diagnosis.

once done the basics if that dosent fix it. look at the injectors and compression.
stuck, leacking or cloged injector will make it rough so will low compression on one cylinder
