Never heard anything bad about JKM, which to be honest is a rare thing (I get to hear most of the horror stories about VAG tuning companies). As Robin said though they aren't the cheapest so when it comes to having expensive parts fitted you may do well to try to source certain parts yourself and just pay them the labour charge.

....Just to clarify, I wasn't implying that JKM are more expensive than most but only that they aren't always the lowest price you can get by shopping around.

To illustrate this, JKM were only about £20 (on £1,500) more expensive than APS and about £30 cheaper than VWR for supplying and fitting a Quaife. I only went for VWR because of their experience and JKM were totally honest in telling me that although they had fitted many many diffs, not yet in a DSG. When sourcing some Ferodo DS2500 pads, JKM were cheaper and faster in supplying than AP Racing's recommended cheapest supplier.

Depending on which parts I would strongly advise against sourcing your own parts and supplying them to any workshop without first discussing it with them. You can't expect any workshop to take responsibility or chase up any product warranty issues unless they have supplied them.

It's never worth being a cheapskate IMO.

I disagree. Why carry the 10% or whatever the particular workshop pockets for supplying dealer parts which carry their own warranty anyway? Importing your own parts from the states (not so much now with the weak £) was always a great way to make a saving. I'm not saying you'll always get ripped off, but it's always worth checking. It's far too easy just to leave your car with someone with a blank cheque.

illyun I know that this sounds stupid but double check that your petrol cap is fully tightened as if it's not, it may give the error you are logging.

Thanks for that Bacillus but the light has been cleaered twice now but comes back  - over a period of 1 month

I wasn't saying leave a blank cheque. What's to stop you agreeing a price before any work is started? Every professional workshop would want to do that anyway as it's in everyone's best interests.

I never like to deny a workshop its normal profit on supplying parts, particularly if very little labour is involved.

Treat people well and they treat you well. I think this is why I get offered so much discount without ever asking for it (even from my VW dealer) and I also don't get charged at all for all sorts of things. Just yesterday, my VW dealer only charged me for £290 instead of the standard £375 for a cambelt kit change plus they checked out other things I specifically asked them to do, doing so with no charges.

Overall I think I spend less and get better service and care by doing it my way.

We'll have to agree to disagree :afro:

cos whenever my dsg changes gear in D mode i can hear a loud but soft thump sound kind of like a big loud thud, do you have this?

Thats normal        You want to hear it when you have a Milltek on the car - its much more pronounced       You can hear this on a video of an Ed30 on the Santa Pod 1/4 mile strip 3/4 down on this link - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1611.30

Have to agree that this policy generally works.. although at times there is the odd dodgy workshop/mechanic that does take the p155 and I NEVER go to them again.

Pretty sure I already suggested that, not sure if it was tried though because I didn't end my post with FACT!

  Not sure what you mean there but I did have a look at the petrol cap as suggested by you.

....

I've only had one issue with JKM and that was over a cracked engine cover (easily done) some time ago. They were convinced it wasn't them, but I am still totally convinced otherwise, but after discussion they offered to replace mine FOC with a used spare they had. I'm happy with them being genuine in their belief and their willingness to help my problem, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere.
