256 won't go onto 239. On the 239's the caliper carrier is part of the hub, whereas on the 256+280's the caliper carrier is removable.

For 256/280's, you need new hubs, calipers and carriers, IIRC the ball joints can differ between 17/18mm - someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I had thought that and had been looking for a 4 stud hub set up but everyone for sale on ed38 and here never reply when they post there ads and the scrappies are no joy either.

Don't look for the mainstream sources, you'll end up paying over the odds. Jump down to a few scrapyards and get them off a Passat/Toledo/Ibiza/MK3 Golf.

Where in Scotland are you based? There's a fella in Bonnybridge who breaks VWs and carries a lot of bits. I've got his number if you're nearby.

Is that the guy goes by the name lowbay? I am close ish to there. Phoned a brakers in renfrew whos was meant to have a few mk2 in but no joy.

Yeah, Ritchy Lowbay - 07788893483. He's not always in the place and goes at perculiar hours - its also burried in an industrial estate

If you remove the short length of metal pipe from the calipers normal 8v ones will fit, as I found out :P
edit: at least for 256 calipers...
