Braided Brake Lines

Well my brake lines are on there way out and am tempted to get some braided ones. Im just not sure if my brakes will need the 4 or 6 hose kit. Ive got a gti 8v digi with 239mm brakes.

If you are going to bother doing it, get the 6 line as this includes the flexible pieces over the rear beam.

and its not that i want to do it, but it needs doing and thought that i may aswell uprate them to stainless numbers so no more rusting

Aren't the braided lines just to replace the rubber unions - not the whole length? If the main lines are shot - I wouldn't have thought there wasn't a stainless equiv - just plain 'ole copper.

copper, or better yet kunifer/cupro-nickel.. vw factory lines are steel.. thus why they rustings

im not too sure but its ones near the calipers ive been told that they are on there way out and aint alot of life left in them

If you're going as far as you say you are then while you're at it you might as well move up to 256 or 280mm front brakes and the 16V master cylinder.

You'll get much stronger brakes with less fade resistance.

There's a brake 101 that I put together a while ago here which might be useful.

Cheers DH might look into changing the hole caliper etc looks like it could be a cheaper option.

If you uprate your calipers - the braided unions are still recommended, it stops the spongyness associated with the rubber unions expanding slightly when the system pressurises.

good bit of info there Diamond, to clarify
I have bought the 256mm brakes will they bolt right onto my existing 8v set up without req new hubs ? ball joints?
