Pioneer Avic F700/900BT
« on: 18 February 2009, 13:07 »
Soo, as I'm getting closer to my new car, one thing's for sure - the existing ICE will be removed!!

Was looking at an MFD2 setup, but as it isn't as hot as expected (by all accounts on here), I'm looking down the Pioneer route.

Probably one of either Avic F700/900BT.

The main difference being DVD playback from 900 HU.
Not overly bothered about that, as the kids have their own screens to put in the back ;)

Has anybody got one of these units? Is it as good as it LOOKS?

Also going to but a nice Kenwood 12" sub in the wheel arch (as per the DIY section ;) ) and uprate the speakers.

Thoughts?

Dan :)

Did you need any other bits? I'm guessing I'd be coming from a standard RCD300 install...

sorry forgot to mention it was not in my mk4 golf but a 57 plate mercedes
if you are fitting it to a mk4 golf then you will not need any extra parts but you will need to splice into the white/yellow wire in the vw iso block to pick up the speed pulse

for the mk5 you will need tha facia adapter and a canbus adapter aswell this provides the ignition live speed pulse reverse and illumination wires
the part number for this is CTAVGCAN001
the facia part number is CT23VW03A-DDFACIA
you will also need a vw fakra to iso aerial adapter
please be warned though when you disconnect the factory h/u you may get some warning lights come up on the clocks but these will just need resetting

Many thanks for replying TS :)

Sorry about the late recognition - missed the alert email!!

Definitely looking at a V2.0 F700BT now - great bit of kit especially when I connect the reversing camera. I won't need reverse/proximity detectors now :)

The irony is that I haven't got my car yet, and the dealership may have found me a nice example......with an MFD2!!!
Still, I think they're fetching good money on Ebay ;)

Dano - I looked at these for my Audi, but when I found out that the steering wheel controls would only work the volume, I went OEM.

From what I understand the 700BT has some limitations with running satnav and allowing access to music at the same time, but hopefully troublestarter can clarify this?

Thanks for this LostBok :)

I'm not overly bothered about the steering wheel functions - I tend to use all the controls on my Ipod Touch anyway (cradle is right next to my steering wheel anyway).

I hear what you say about the 700. Would be interesting to find out what it is.

FWIW, I tried a 900BT in Halfords' wall of "noise" (!) Sadly it was only Version 1.0 firmware (documented as being slow). I wanted to see V2.0 but nothing going!!!LOL!

Overall impression was that it was cnut-proof (considering the amount of functions) - my only concerns were concerning the slowness (V1 issue) and the fact that the screen's contrast and brightness wasn't overly hot. However, that could be down to the ICE monkeys playing with it all the time!!

Also going to look at a couple of other options - I like the Pioneer, but it's a lot of money for a HU to get the choice wrong!!! Kenwood do one to (not touching Alpine - never liked em) Might also look at a Sony (haven't checked to see if they do it!)

There's a user on here that's got one installed in his ED30 IIRC.... might try and contact him too :)

I hadn't heard too much about sloness once they were up and running, but apparently they can take a few minutes to boot up and go online for the GPS.... need to find somebody who has used one of the new firmware versions though.
