EPC
« on: 11 February 2009, 21:44 »
Hi All,

A few days ago when I was driving the EPC (Engine Management) lamp came on. My immediate thought was this means ££££â€™s!! I was driving fairly slow anyway so didn’t really notice anything else other than it appeared that the boost was completely missing? I pulled over and turned the engine off waited about a minute then started it again. The light had now gone off and all was back to normal? It happened again today when I was on the M4 I was doing about 60 and the lamp came on it appeared to be ok but with just a complete lack of boost? I have revo stage 1 and I know that there can be a problem with the DV valve but when I switched the engine off and on again the EPC light goes out and boost returns and all ok again so surely it can’t be the DV valve? Any one had a similar problem? Any suggestions?

Could still be a small tear in the dv.

Know anyone with a vcds to scan your car?

epc is related to throttle etc hence Electronic Power Control

so more than likley to do with DBW, see what code is in it but for the time being dissconnect the battery (make sure you have the radio code), re-connect turn the ignition on(leave on for 30sec or so) then start the car.

this will have done a TBA which eliminates one potential factor!

bacillus - I am based in the Slough/Reading area

Thanks revo carl, I will try that, sorry to be a div but what is DBW?!

Also what is a TBA and by doing this what factor will this eliminate. Sorry for the stupid questions but its like having a sick child and i am one very concerned parent at the moment! Losing power when this EPC light comes on is like the GTI losing its heart!

DWB= Drive By Wire

TBA= Throttle Body Alighnment

this will make sure that the trottle body alighnment and adaptaion as been done (which is an essential part of EPC system) if it's lost its adaptation values then it will throw a wobbler every now and again and will give you nothing!

I could have helped you out if I had my VAG-COM with me...  I'm currently working in Reading.  I'll be back next week though if you're still having issues.
