Yeah 160bhp with that weight was never exactly going to be highly exciting. That is not a fair comparision though, poor farmer spec 5 door syncro against the Rallye. All those luxuries weigh a bit as does the charger.

Actually it's a pretty fair comparison - the Syncro had a fair spread of spec - central locking, power steering, some had electric windows and a sunroof.

And then there's the G60 Syncro and the Limited.  I'd be interested to see kerb weights for them, but Google isn't quite as willing as with the Rallye.

It's the luxuries that I don't get about the Rallye.

It's a rally-replica - an homologation special.  Other similar cars of that era, like the E30 M3 didn't get criticised for being over-weight and under-powered.  VW really did shoot themselves in the foot with the whole Rallye project.  They should have just done the Limited in greater numbers.

As many people have stated previously - more doors, more whores, innit.

Ya box arch nonsense ain't never gonna work on the fairer sex.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Yeah it's a very odd car, especially as it cost twice as much as a GTI when new.

S'alright, plenty o' women in the salon.

If money was no object then it would have to be a Golf Limited, but it's not technically a GTI.

+1
Failing that a nice 16v, used to be 8vs but give me screamin valvers, will one day build it as a 'charger as homage to the Limited

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

Oh ok... there's another guy from the Mk2 section who regularly comes over to the Mk5 just to vent his venom, so I was beginning to wonder how more are like that!     I'm a Mk2 owner as well - Mk2 16v, 3-doors, Royal Blue, Big Bumper and 73k from new   In fact, my fav car of all time is the Mk2 16v - just can't better it.

Just point out these venomous posts to the moderators, and they will usually delete them. Some people post things up knowing perfectly well that they will get deleted, and even say things like, 'I wonder how long it will be before this gets deleted'. I do not see the point in that at all. Its just wasting everybodies time reading their drivel.

Well I'm sure most of you guys are ok... In fact its only one Mk2 owner who's a regular giant troll on the Mk5 section - Sharpie!

I have gone off the idea of a Mk2 after looking at the Mk2 crash test on Youtube.
Appalling.
