ok so i dont have xenons is it possible to fit them? or would it be to much work?

There are two sides to that story. Do a quick search on here, there are many threads covering that topic.

There is also a current thread on blue headlight bulbs. Many people here have either Philips Xtreme Power bulbs or Philips Bluevision bulbs (which I have). Both make a vast improvement compared to standard. This is the most cost-effective way of making your headlights brighter and look better.

Aren't they?  How can you tell?  They look just like the ones I had fitted to my old GTi and the ones fitted to my current GTI - both are factory fit Xenons... what am I missing?

I might actually be mistaken about you image from earlier in the thread, because you can't actually see a close up of the headlamp for any definative detail.    However, the geniune OEM Golf5 xenons have a larger diameter 'fish eye' glass lens, when compared to other non-genuine Mk5 lights, even those projector style halogens. 

I'm busy searching for a decent close-up . . . .

They could be the HELLA XENON look headlamps... i think they are very cool and will seriously think about buying them in the future as i have halogen so would be a good upgrade but at £450 its a lil steep now.
