Evening,
I've just bought a Mk4 Golf 2.0 GTI and am experiencing some electrical problems. The car hasn't been driven for a while and had to have a new battery so I don't know if this makes a difference. Unfortunately, the guy I bought it off had lost the owners manual so I can't look up if any of these problems are easily resolved. Any help would be much appreciated.
1) The stereo only seems to work intermittently. It wouldn't work when I just put the electrics on but kicked in when I started the engine. The tape and radio would then work but when I tried to put a CD in, it wouldn't read it and then when I took the CD out nothing else would work! I tried turning the engine off then on again but it still wouldn't work. Am I doing something wrong or is it faulty?
2) I don't have the remote locking key so have to actually put the key in the door. The central locking works perfectly when locking the car but when opening only unlocks the driver door. I thought turning the electrics on would then open everything else but it doesn't until I actually press the unlock button on the inside of the door. Is this normal?
3) I'm getting an airbag fault and airbag light is constantly on. Any ideas?
4) The traction control light is constantly on. I have tried pressing the ESP button but this has no effect. Any ideas?
5) The electric wing mirrors do not seem to work at all. Any ideas?
6) The outside temperature gauge does not seem to be particularly sensitive as it was telling me it was 10 degrees last night! Any ideas?
7) The trip computer doesn't seem to be working properly. I drove for 40 miles on the motorway yesterday at approx 80mph but my average speed was apparently 13mph on Memory Position 1. Also switching to Memory Position 2 using the little button on the steering wheel stick doesn't actually seem to change the display other than the number in the top right corner changing to a 2. Also, on the left hand side of the screen, there is a circle with a line through it. Any ideas?
I think that's it for now……………
Cheers!
Pete
