Do all mk2 8v GTI's drop below idle before settling at idle when stopping??

Mine does. Lol had some trouble with it just dropping dead whenever I put the clutch in to come to a stop. Went to a VW specialist, he tweaked the idle, and said "all mk2's do that" and now it's fine, so I guess I believe him lol

'all mk2's do that?' hmmmmmm. Tweaking the idle may just be covering up the underlying problem.

Check the timing using Rubjonny's guide http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=33253.0

I am on my 2nd 8V now. Both had a dodgy tickover that would drop below 900 rpm idle, then shudder a bit, then recover and come back up before settling. In both cases, a tune up of the timing and cleaning out the idle stability valve cured the problem.

Did he just crank up the idle, or did he check the timing and the mixture too? A digifant really does need to be set up absolutely spot on to get the most from it, otherwise it doesn't perform too well at all

Mine does do this just a little bit. blip the throttle and the revs will drop just a touch below normal idle speed before the throttle idle switch clicks and the ISV kicks in.

Hmm, one of mine never did it (the other did it badly!) and neither does my Dad's. Guess we're some of the lucky ones :smug:

my digi never did this, and my abf on kr managment doesnt either.
thats what the isv on the 8v and isv + overrun-cutoff on the 16v are for :)

sounds like you bought a shi**er m8  :evil:

both my 8 valve's never done that  (hint,hint)  :grin:

i take it you got the cam belt fixed...something to do with that maybe..

Re-check your timing and clean and gap the plugs. An advanced ignition could cause this, then the idle switch will take over.
