Handbrake light
« on: 26 January 2009, 21:44 »
Hello,

I've noticed that over the last couple of days my handbrake light comes on under hard acceleration. It like flashes on and off. Its the  red light with ' ! ' In the middle. Is this just a handbrake light or is it a general ' stop kaning me ' light?

Cheers

tom

First port of call check the fluid level, if its low top it up and check for leaks and make sure the brake pads aren't excessively worn

It'll just be the handbrake switch i'd imagine. Take the plastic surround from the base of the lever and you'll see the push switch. Just make sure its secure, or if worn then replace it

Brake fluid reservoir level sensor on cap, very common fault. Worth a look.

Seriously though, I would check the fluid level first as it's the easiest thing to check. Then look at the handbrake light switch if the fluid level is ok.
