I might have a big problem with my car
« on: 15 January 2009, 23:41 »
I don't know how to describe this, but my car feels unstable at times, quite alot of the time. I was driving to Bridgewater today and it's not so much on the motorway but mostly all other roads, when I'm doing about 30+ any bump, hill, or anything in the road, my car kind of skids the rear end out a bit and it doesn't feel like I'm in total control.

As I said it's hard to describe but I'm sure you can get the general idea. It might be the suspension (I know one shock or spring isn't great but coilovers will be on next week) it can't be the tracking because I had that done very recently. And it's not the tyres as I just had a brand new one put on and the other front one has loads of tread.

What do you all think?

You reckon that's what it is? I can find out for sure when I get it lowered next week but it's been like this for quite some time.

BTW, congrats on Mk3 Ownership :)

I've had a front bush done, but I'll get my mate to check out if I need the rears done, don't think it could be the wishbones but worth a check.

if your rear end if kicking out a bit sort of thing, then check all your bushes in the rear for movement and wear.

any knocking sounds at all from the rear?

No not really, I do know when I've been for a drive, there's a slight tapping, knocking sort of sound, very faint but sounds like it's coming from driver's side suspension. It defo kicks out from the rear though, can be scary sometimes.

So that's referring to the feeling of not being completely in control as well when hitting bumps etcs?

Yes, the std. susp. setup on a mk3 is crap to be honest, I hated the way it felt on mine, trust once you get the coilovers on you will notice a world of difference.

Ok that's cool, I did have it on the old suspension too, just wait until I get the coilovers :D
