It will 100% be your Susp, they felt the same on mine, cured by fitting coilovers mk3 Golfs were always underdamped.

So that's referring to the feeling of not being completely in control as well when hitting bumps etcs?

Yes, the std. susp. setup on a mk3 is crap to be honest, I hated the way it felt on mine, trust once you get the coilovers on you will notice a world of difference.

Ok that's cool, I did have it on the old suspension too, just wait until I get the coilovers :D

No worries, if you think about it, that old susp. had done 57k on my car plus however more miles you have put on it.

I have the same issues m8, i really dont feel confident going any faster than 55 say on a A /B roads, the car feels so unstable at speed when your on a rough road, or over take an go over cats eyes, feels fine on the Motorway. Going to be overhauling the whole susp setup soon though, just think its 12 years old and covered 130k bound to be sh!te

Yeah I see you point wayne, and azzrobz, that's exactly what happens with me on cats eyes, and any heavy painted road marking (that are parallel to the direction you're going) as well. It's scary :(

ive found this on my gti which has done 126k with no shocks that on a/b roads bounces all over but my vr6 stays put n holds the road n thats done 154k miles i put this down the different suspension on the gti being slightly harder for that sport feel

My dads Mk3 Golf GL did exactly the same until he put a Supersport suspension kit on it!

I have the same problem with the front of my car though - and that's on coilovers! If you hit a bump or go over a cats eye then the front end jumps in the air.
I suppose it's cus they're so stiff? But it's well scary cus you're not in control of the steering lol!

I can vouch for this being standard suspension too. It felt like the back end came around by itself without any turning/anything, especially on a B road near where I live..

I changed to hottuning and guess what - it's fine now!

well it is a common feeling that the rear isnt as glued to the road as the front.....and its made worse by worn shockers (I'm sure its the cars design that causes this?)...
I do know some people who drive around with a bag of cement in the boot due to the lightness of the rear!!

That's commitment!  Would be cooler to mix up the cement and fill the spare wheel well though, then carpet over it
