well for £1200 you can't really go wrong!

as for a test drive if it wasn't a Saab i would have maybe said yes

got a pool car in work - its fecking terrible

anyhoo - welcome to the forum!

am picking it up on friday but sadly since its not a 16valve then i probably have to negotiate down the price as my son has been misled its a 16valve.

whats your budget?  if he's been misled then god knows what else the seller has told him - perhaps walk away?

Seller sounds like he has NO IDEA what he is talking about. VW never made a 2.0 16v for the MK4. As sheep boy said, who know what else he has missed.

Walk Away, it may be that he doesnt know what model he had, but it could be that he is misleading in other areas. As it is a very good price, you wont know what else could be awry.
Also your son will prefer something faster

So, in short what everyone is saying is the 2.0l did not come wth the 16valve variant.
Right, I ihink   considering the 1.8t 20valve 150bhp we  might as well stick to  the more insurance-friendly 2.0l 115 bhp, bearing in mind the cameras dont help driving the more errattic 150bhp 16v.

The question which am asking is does the 2.0L come with the "GTI" badge with  the red "I"?

2.0 was never a GTI in Europe - was badged as a highline

badges mean diddly squat

They were normally badged as all silver but the dealers didn't really have rules for sticking badges on.

If you want an exciting reasonably quick car it has to be a 1.8T, if you don't want the speed go for a TDI 110/115/130

^ Spot on what he said. 2.0 isn't economical either. I get better MPG in the 2.0T MK5 (well used to, until I got it remapped but that's not the point). Not to mention its got a serious addiction to oil, and I mean serious, that 2.0 8v drinks the stuff.

If you going to get a 2.0 you might as well get a 115 GT TDI imo or push the boat out a little and get a 130.
