GTI specs?
« on: 19 June 2004, 21:50 »
Hi folks - can anyone tell me what the 'official' and real-world specs are for MK3 GTI's (ideally 2.0 8v's)?

There seems to be a bit of a difference in opinions in some topics, so I don't want to open old wounds  ;) , but any info would be great.

My previous motor was a Nissan 200SX Turbo (the first, better looking model) and the specs were:

1.8, 16v, fuel injected, turbo.  Rear wheel drive (oh yes!) and the official figures were 0-60 in 6.8secs and 140 tops.  I can't verify the 0-60, but I can say that she reached 140 and was still accelerating!  Oh my, what a car  ;D

So it'd be interesting to see how the GTI's compare.

Cheers,

Dobbs.

I'd put the 8v closer to 9 seconds and the 16v at 7.9 tbh. Those times look woefully pessimistic.
1997 Tornado Red GTi 8v - The Fastest HotBox on Fife's roads.

Modifications -

1 x Kenwood KDC-7024M
1 x Dull Aluminium Golf Ball Gearknob. Clearly worth about 10bhp on its own.

and what about the valver?

forever forgotten! performance wise its not -much- off the mk2 16v, with a few mods it can match it...

IMO its a much better compromise as vr6 insurance is pretty prohibitive..
i dont think any will disagree that its more reliable than a '6

Why is a vr6 less reliable than a 16v?
More expensive to repair but certainly just as reliable.
