thanks for the quick replies

The car was fairly recently serviced by VW, would they not have hooked it up and checked for faults, then cleared anything that was there?

The power terminal one seems confusing, so am choosing to ignore it... ahem...

would a dodgy temp sensor cause the revs to rise on their own, then stall the car out?

What about the Oxygen Sensor?

I would ring them then and see what they say. The oxygen sensor on my MG went and it ran fine didnt even know about it until it failed the MOT on emmissions.

haven't mate sorry, only got the GTI ones handy

pop into vw though they'll match it to your reg or vin number (it's worth lifting the bonnet to check they've given you the right one before you leave though, there are a few different ones that aren't interchangeable)

Bought / changed / codes cleared

took it for a test drive and didn't seem to have the problems of before and heated up much quicker. Going to drive it again tomorrow from the dead of cold to see if it's actually worked.

Thanks all so much for your help
