Can i ask about mk4 V5's and GTi's

Hey guys i have a question is there anything i need to look out for when buying a V5 as i am interested in either a mk4 GTi or a V5.
 i have driven both before but years ago and my poor little brain cant recall which is the better option, insurance isnt a problem for either i just value all of your advice

I have owned both (several times)

And there will be more comments to follow this im sure,

1.8T Gti is the only choice.

V5 too thirsty and not tuneable
2.0 8v Gti is a snail and not tuneable

Dont get the V5, waste of money and drinks like a fish for a poor return in performance. 1.8T remaped will piss all over a V5.

V6 4motion.

You can't get more fun A to B than that (unless you go the whole hog and get an R32).

Exactly the same looks as a GTI but with a sneaky bit of 4x4 hidden underneath.  I've got a stretch of road with 5 or 6 roundabouts along a dual carriageway on my way to work - I pray for rain!

Crap on mpg but who cares - get a 2000 and you'll have the lower tax to offset your fuel fees.

One final point to be considered is the engine/exhaust sound from the V6 - simply awesome in comparison to even the 1.8T

That's my thought with the V5 too, it sounds better than the 1.8T.  If you're not bothered about the noise, 1.8T is the sensible choice.
