V6 4motion.
You can't get more fun A to B than that (unless you go the whole hog and get an R32).
Exactly the same looks as a GTI but with a sneaky bit of 4x4 hidden underneath. I've got a stretch of road with 5 or 6 roundabouts along a dual carriageway on my way to work - I pray for rain!
Crap on mpg but who cares - get a 2000 and you'll have the lower tax to offset your fuel fees.
One final point to be considered is the engine/exhaust sound from the V6 - simply awesome in comparison to even the 1.8T
You're right. They sound awesome & grip on the wet stuff.

BUT.............................

The lardy V6 4M won't handle as well as the 1.8T (heavier body & heavier lump hanging over the front wheels), will suffer from more transmission loss, won't be able to brake as late, will drink like a fish, will be more expensive to service, more expensive to insure & cost a bomb to extract decent power (try getting 45-60 bhp for £200 with one of those!
Anyhow...................................
1.8T over V5, anyday!!!

(Unless you need an Auto?

pps S3 FTW!!!

4wd & tunable lump.
