Hmm yeah you're right!

I just paid £198 for the first longlife service on mine, however my decision was a little more complicated...

The dealer that I chose to commission the work has just built a brand new service facility and I must admit - it is impressive, and I trust that my car would be well looked after. I also know a couple of the technicians, and they seem like decent lads!

The other two surrounding dealerships that are within a realistic commutable distance are, well lets just say, not in the greatest of conditions. The service facility at one of them literally looks like the garage of your local Humphrey's Tyre and Exhaust or QuikFit, and the other has really bad customer service!!

I guess I'd rather pay a bit more for that peace of mind! But still feel that £198 was a bit of a joke, considering all they did was an oil change and replaced the oil filter! Should have done it myself, but I was to keep the VW FSH for when I sell her!

At the end of the day its all down to which technician actually works on your car rather than where you take it... And you don't normally get any control over that!

Ive just had my first service done on mine, its just 2 years old now and cost me about £260 but that included the brake fluid change. I got a free courtesy car but if I wanted to pay with a credit card they would have charged an extra 1%

Yeah I was a little miffed when they said that but fortunately I wasnt paying with a CC! I did sarcastically tell them I thought they spanked people enough without introducing addition little charges!

its not odd about getting charged 1% for using a CC, its penny pinching. every shop everywhere pays a commission back to the credit card companies whenever you use one, I guess that garage it fed up of paying those fees, credit crunch!!!

Im also on the hunt for a best price for my first long life service... tried 3 different VW's, 1 Skoda, and still waiting on a price from IVW Specialists. Prices were as follows for anyone in W.Yorkshie

Orignal Prices

Leeds - £299
Huddersfield - £218
Wakefield - £204
DM Keith - £193

I wanted the Leeds one to be cheapest as its just been taken over by sytner and is closest but it turned out the most expensive which annoyed me as they are doing exactly the same as Skoda would do (no???). So phoned them back and said VW Hudds are doing it for £169 inc vat. :lipsrsealed:

Forgot that they had both been taken over by the same group :embarassed: Anyway they phoned me back and said they would do it for £187 inc vat!!

Done deal and £112 in my back pocket

£330 is the going rate (several dealers local to me gave me the same quote) for the 2nd long live service as thats what mine cost when I got it done a few weeks ago. Also paid a bit extra to get the brake fluid serviced aswell. I didnt have to pay for the privilege of driving around in a 1.4 Polo tho :)
