COOLANT LEAK ISSUE
« on: 29 December 2008, 10:50 »
Thought I would make its own thread, does a mod want to make this a sticky as several people have / had this problem now with the MK5.

If you are losing coolant and it constantly requires topping up this is because there a leaking flange (tell me you didn't giggle when you read that . . :D) where the coolant goes into the engine and all that (technical description there).

It is covered under warranty or (in the case of VW Croydon) cost £180 inc labour and parts.

HTH.

Alan, where exactly is your leaky flange?  Was there a part number on the warranty invoice?

Thanks.

The first part on you list is a dinky connection pipe, near to the DSG heat exchanger, the second is a vacuum hose (for air) going to your brake servo (so it has fcuk all to do with the coolant! ) . . . and none of those bits refer to anything remotely like a 'flange'!

You didn't have women on your mind - leaky flange  . . . . donning coat!

Fairy nuff.

But the text on the invoice does specifically state coolant flange replaced!  Maybe Croydon VW are pulling a fast one on their warranty claims (not unheard of) - particularly when you look at their labour claim of one and a half hours.  The bits they replaced should have taken less than half an hour!

Oh, and I just noticed - they shafted you for three litres of coolant!  Now that is a blatant scam.  The connection pipe can be changed without any loss of coolant (well, maybe a little dribble - similar to an old bloke with prostrate troubles ) - so HTF can they justify two bottles of neat coolant.

And I also noticed they didn't even use the latest spec coolant either!  The current brew is "G12 plus plus".   Hmmmmm, or did they.  The part number is correct, but the actual description is wrong . . . . .

Good job it wasn't your own money!

I'm having the same thing fixed and the parts quoted are housing @£9.10 and a seal @£1.08 plus coolant as required.

See if you can take a picture - maybe get the dealer tech to point to the location on the engine - because there seems to be confusion between what is being told to peeps, and what is actually replaced.
