Upgrade the standard headlights?
« on: 24 December 2008, 14:11 »
Hi all!  Long time no see!

I am considering upgrading my headlights.  I currently have the standard ones that are more than adequate, but I wouldn't mind the Xenon's as they are meant to be much brighter.  Any idea how much VW would charge to supply & fit?  I could phone them up and ask but that's too easy

if your wanting to upgrade from halogen to road legal xenon then i think its around £2000 inc labour

you need all the parts such as washer jets for the headlamps and level monitors..

i was thinking of buying the hella xenon look headlamps at £350 they are fairly priced, stick some nightbreaker bulbs and its all good

plenty of other options, bulb upgrades etc if its brightness you want to improve, if its a different look then angel eyes with LED's are popular and look kool, FK do the best, i think Hurdy has a set on his motor.

I must say, I have always been dissapointed in the headlights of the GTi.  I recently upgraded the bulbs to the Philips extreme.  Whilst they do make things a bit brights, I have always found that the beam is now thrown far enough on dip, and on  full it just doesn't light up the road as well as it should.  Nowhere near as good as my old Mk1 focus.  I was in my mates clio with standard headlights and they were great. I would be interested in upgrading the headlamps.

retro fit HID kits are illegal, search the forum you will find the threads stating why!

The cut a long story short, you need a self leveling sensor on the rear axle, that's in conjunction with OEM parts. Aftermarket kits are dangerous and illegal.

Dangerous.... doubtfull

Illegal....brothers car has passed MOT the last three years with them.. :undecided:

I know there is issues with self leveling and wash wipe to do with legality but if they are aligned properly i understand there is no issues.

There was a big discussion about this on the forums here a few months ago. I'll try and dig up the link for you.
