Disaster
« on: 17 December 2008, 22:30 »

I fell asleep at the wheel of my car 2 hours ago and ploughed into a kerb at a roundabout of the A12– long journey and should have stopped really.  One of my black BBS alloys has been badly kerbed on the lip – the lip is totally misshapen although the rest of the alloy seems ok – it was good enough to keep the air in the tyre despite a chunk of rubber being taken off and I managed to drive home keeping a speed of 60mph.  I have two questions:

1. Does anyone know who could repair the alloy - if repairable - pics tomorrow.  I'm thinking spit and polish but live in Suffolk
2. I am going to purchase a spare Black Edition BBS CH alloys which has a steel lip. Does anyone know of someone who could paint the lip on the new alloy to a good quality?

I know...   :embarassed: thing is I can't even recall falling asleep.  All I remember is approaching the roundabout and then hitting the kerb at the other end with my car bouncing up after the impact.

Dodgy as mate.

Next time take a break - like others have said you could have killed someone or youself.

Count yourself lucky this time and take a lesson from this.

BTW hope you get your alloy fixed

....If you could recall it, you wouldn't have fallen asleep!

Normally you feel the tiredness beginning in small waves at first and that's the time to find a place to stop and take a break. How would you feel if you had caused an incident in which people were injured or worse?

I'm sure you'll now be taking greater care in future. Respect for owning up and posting about it!

I know.. I do too much driving as it is, but now have a small one at 7 weeks old who just doesn't want to sleep and let anyone else around him sleep... first time its happenned and I think it just caught up.  Normally I'm pretty good with distance driving - used to live in Antwerp, Belgium and always drove there via Dover from Northampton.  That was a 3 hour journey to Dover and then 2-3 hours to Antwerp and never once fell asleep.
