hi cud someone plez help me wiv the valuation of the following car:
1996 N reg 2.0L 8 Valve GTi, blue, with recent service...plugs leads etc....good condition exahust..leather seats...aironditioning...5 door. full service history, Mot and tax till November, 50k on the clock, body in good condition, no mods,  cheers?

air con and leather were factory option yes? ... then they dont add value to ur car unfortunately... but u can try to add more if u sell it privately, but if u part-ex it they wont give u extra...

as for the value...

Private selling, average miles (80,000 for a 96 N): -

Good condition - ?3015

Poor condition - ? 2130

Trade - ? 2470

That description sounds like my car only with less miles!

I would sell it privately for ?3,500 at least.

Leather and air con were damn expensive factory options. :o

Some people look for leather and will pay extra for it.

Most people like to have air con these days and it's quite rare in 8vs so this is a good selling point.

Plus the mileage is very low at 50k

If you're not in a hurry i'd definately start over ?3,500.

I agree "some" people will offer u more cos of the extra's ... but people like me, who know factory fit options dont add value to a 2nd hand car...

but hey .. ask for ?3500 "ONO" and see what happens!

Of course factory options add value!  (for private sales at least)

You can't deny that a gti with leather and air con is worth more than an identical one without.

yeh thats wat i was thinkin.......

How can a car that has extra "factory fit" options such as mettallic paint, leather seats or alarm & imobilisor not add any value to a car?

and be cast in the same price bracket as a similar car without any of these options?

Put it this way.

My local VW dealership has a VW Bora Sport 2.0 for sale on its forecourt.

Now ... its got average milage and is a V reg I think...

Its got

SAT NAV
Bigger alloys (VW ones)
Parking sensors

And other fancy gizmo's...

The owner part ex'd it for another car .. the trade value was the same as a VW Bora Sport 2.0 WITHOUT Sat Nav, Parking sensors etc.


So like I said .. they dont add value.

.. Although private sales u might be able to haggle for a bit extra...cos alot of people are stupid  :D
