In built car sat nav systems have always been behind when it comes to full UK postcode entry or at least taken some time to catch up.

I think some of the systems in French cars like the DS3 still don't accept full UK postcodes.

No - mine does the same - if you put in postcode it just goes to that postcode but then, that's what i would expect it to.  Dependent on where you live, postcodes can cover a large area, if you want the Sat Nav to find an address, put in an address, I don't really see the issue.

If you are asking your Sat Nav to find a Postcode - you're asking it to find an area - I am sure there are systems that will let you put an address in and I am sure there are times when you need the postcode search to be specific but in general, and i use my nav a lot for work, I rarely if ever do a postcode search.

The 'no street data' is just telling you the postcode is covering a larger area and not a specific street (I think)

The issue is the Tom Tom, BMW, Audi etc have all allowed there systems to ask for a house number after the postcode has been found where as our systems say "no street data available" but it clearly is when you input via the other option.

A fully updated rns510 was better than the mib1 generation units. It auto loaded radio logos and it gave you full 7 digit postcode search including address. I love the screen on my nav pro but the rns510 was better technically.

i've used 510's - I just don't agree with that.  They were great units but they offer nothing over the MIB1 units - they were also expensive with lots of add ons which is why VW started offering Kenwood systems at the dealer.

The MiB 1 units offer nothing really over a fully updated (fw and maps) rns510 and to be honest the Kenwood deal had nothing to do with the rns being poor. The Kenwood was woeful to use compared to the rns510. If you take the discover and nav pro as just a sat nav with radio etc it's exactly the same as the rns. The latest rns even had ssd hard drives. I don't think the newer units were any better but by all accounts the mibii units are.

i had a Kenwood - it was a good unit for the price and that was it's point, unless you raided e bay, bought a 510 yourself and fitted it, you had to spec a 510 from factory, which when you started to add bits, was expensive, the Kenwood wasn't fantastic but for it's price it had lots of features, it was a good compromise.

I'd never describe the Kenwood as woeful, I used one extensively and again, never had an issue, would have rather had a 510 but it was a cost issue.

No, i don't think the MIB1 units are 'better' than 510's - what they do offer is a more modern look and feel but it is no worse than the 510.  I think the graphics and look is improved, before we get misty eyed, 510's weren't perfect and 315's which i also used, certainly weren't.

James I think all units have issues and certainly from a price point of view they are extremely expensive from the factory when they don't need to be.

Absolutely - don't disagree and that's the point.  In fairness i've always felt VW have done some of the better in car sat navs.

My issues with postcode search on the Pro is actually how to access, could be clearer, it's sort of tucked away.

Yeah I agree, certainly not very clear. I do love the big screen though even though it was really expensive and overpriced but seeing as though retro fitting is still not do able over 2 years down the line it was worth the extra.
