Same sidewall on the tiguan as on the golf. Granted they are 255 40 19 but 40 sidewall the same.
Actually, slightly different bud. 255 x 40 tyres have a 102mm sidewall (approx), where as the 225 x 40 on the Golf has 90mm wall. Doesn't sound like much, but I think the lesser 10-12mm of the GTI tyres results in a stiffer sidewall that's probably not as resistant to hard impacts.
Whilst I would rather not have Dunlops (from a previous experience), I certainly won't be swapping them out unless they are dangerous, in which case VW would be involved. I going to at least give them a try before condemning them. As I said the wife has 215 x40 x17 R Dunlop Sportmaxx's on here Polo, and to be honest, they are not a bad tyre. Good life, low noise and (on the Polo at least), pretty good in the wet or dry, although the Polo has less than 100ps and the GTD and GTI's approx 200 plus and heavier, so could make a difference ?
