there should only be a gasket on the turbo to manifold join and the exhaust housing to downpipe join

The downpipe one was there but not turbo to manifold.

Hmmm you mentioned being concerned about how it has been treat.
What else is making you worried?

Tbh not replacing the gasket is just daft and bone idle would make sure you give ths rest of the caeca good check over

I bet it was blowing a little.
I agree its bone idle now to replace it I know from expierence its a potch to get that gasket lined up but I cheated and used a little silicone sealant lol

I wouldnt be worried about the engine if it sounds good an pulls well the 1.8t's are pretty much bullet proof aslong as the oil changes have been regular an serviced well.

We have fitted a gasket now,
The previous owner had lied about a few things, like having a new clutch fitted.
Its my mates fault as he didnt check through the paper work properly.

There were a few badly repaired things on the car which have now been sorted.
Its actualy a really nice car but seems to have been neglected abit.
There was also a cheap cone filter on there which had gone rusty on the top and bottom metal parts.
Now replaced for a standard airbox, just waiting for the piper x panel filter to turn up

One good thing though, The intercooler is a forge smic. Not sure what its good for but its deffinately bigger than the standard one

Jamie, when he 1st brought it round to me I told him there was a blow somewhere as I could hear it.

At least its done now, Yes it was abit of a pain but since we had the turbo off to sort out the studs for the downpipe it was no bother.
