of course you would need to remove the key completely to see that it switches off...cus i no with the VWs, even when ignition is switched off...so long as the key is still in the barrel after turn off..the ignition is technically on for the radio...or to test that theory...remove the key completely...and use ur finger and press and hold the barrel in where u wud normally put ur key in...its almost like a button! Most cases with VW's is that the OEM aerial loom tends to b quite weak with aftermarket or none original radios. So you are required to purchase an additional aerial signal booster which is almost like a cylindrical affair with a blue wire loose hangin off it to attach to the remote wire of the new radio to send power to turn the little aerial amplifier ON and then work its magic. Common issue with VWs n Audis. Altho a lot of em are ok without this booster too so its more a game of chance dependant on the car itself i find.
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???
