sub and amp noobie HELP?

ok so bought a sub and amp.

few questions firstly how do i wire it into my headunit :S
it is not a standard head unit it is a Sony CDX- GT24

now here is a picture of the back of the head unit

and here is a picture of what i am guessing are ment to wire into the back of the head unit. how do they go in?


also whats the best way to route the wires through the car from the boot to the head unit?

You have a slight problem there old chap - Your head unit does not have any pre-amplified outputs.

By which I mean those RCA connectors you're holding that plug into the amp have nothing to plug into at the business end of things.

You have three options:

1) If you're lucky, your amplifier will accept High Level (i.e. amplified) outputs.
In which case you need to spur off of your speaker outputs and run a set of speaker wires to your amplifier in lieu of RCA cables

2) If you're not lucky, and your amp doesn't support high level inputs, you'll need to add an RCA converter, which takes a hi-level input (as before, spur off your existing outputs) and, via a box of tricks, will give you something to connect those RCA's up to.

3) the best - but most expensive - option; upgrade your headunit to something with pre-outs, preferably a couple of pairs, one of which should be non-fading.

was thinking that would be the only options i had although im sure when i bought the head unit, it said it has preamp outputs :/

how will i know if my amp will take high level outputs?
also were is the best (preferably pretty cheep) place to buy a RCA converter?

High level inputs are identical to speaker connections; i.e. they are designed to be connected to speaker wires, but just as inputs rather than outputs.

So, if you have what looks like twice as many speaker connections than you should have, your amp will take High level inputs - they will be marked as such on the amp in any case, so should be easily identifiable.

If you don't have them, this is as cheap as RCA converters get:

cheers for that, dont think my amp will take high level inputs then,

that rca conecter then, how would  i wire that into my headunit?
just join that up with the outputs of my headunit so i have the wires coming off the head unit wires?

No worries chap.
The converter should come with instructions, but essentially yes, you're going to connect it to your speaker output wires from the headunit.
Simples.

cheers, will be hopefully geting a RCA converter tomorow. last question (hopefully)

is it better to wire it up to the outputs that come streight out of the heaunit (i.e. the connecter i have to conect the vw cable to the head unit ) or on the vw cable its self? ide imagine the vw cable but may be wrong?
also, dont suppose you know which are the output wires that i would conect the rca converter too?

an rca converter will have matching colours to the h/u and you connect it colour for colour
white =left speaker +
white/black = left speaker -
grey = right speaker +
grey/black = right speaker -
black connect to earth
