or buy a GTi, by the time you've done this you'll insurance will be through the roof.(IF you declare it...)

I had a 1.8 Driver for a few months, as i turned 18. I dreamed of doing all this stuff to it, and making it so much quicker. Added up it'll cost a bomb and ALOT of effort. So i went out and bought a GTi. Then you'll need to do the brakes, then you'll have to sort out the handliing.

I know it's a sore point, but i'm so glad i bought a GTi and got rid of the Driver instead of wasting what would've been loads on it.

Or failing that, covert the Driver to a GTi by changing lump.

Having looked for a GTi I ended up with a 1.8 Driver and I quite like the simplicity of the carb - I've experienced both Digifant and K-jet misbehaviour and fun it isn't. A Driver like mine with GTi cam, Weber carb and GTi exhaust is not far short of a GTi anyway (around 105bhp). I will change the manifold and downpipe eventually but only when I go 2L and put a ported PB head on it. As you might have noticed Golf owners just can't leave them alone! I could get a 16V or whatever but I quite like tinkering with mine and none of it has been really expensive, buying stuff off the forums and Ebay and doing all the work myself. And every mod I've fitted is removeable so if things change I'll break it.

new to the site and have a 1600 driver as well.cant seem to find bits like manifolds etc for it.was reading this and was well impressed as this forum actually has people that know what they are talking about!!so do most bits from an 8v gti i.e. the cam, exhaust manifold etc fit on the 1600 driver engine?
