there has to be a joint, vw didnt fit it one piece, should be a sleeve just before the centre bracket and a one just after the bend before it goes over the rear beam

if not it looks like someone has welded it up in the past

must have been welded in place surely, its a pig to get the back box off without cutting it as it is without the extra length. unless vw changed there design and they fit the exhaust before the rear beam

sounds like youll have to line your new pipe up to the exhaust fitted and do some cutting, and a trip to vw to buy the sleeve if you dont fancy u clamps (hateful things)

They wouldnt weld it in place, they'd never weld the top half.
To get it out without cutting take the rear beam bolts out and jack the car up a more give you more room.

Just get a set of pipe cutters on it. When I did mine on my AUQ Cupra the middle section was sleeved front and back but the new pd150 middle pipe slotted over the cat with a U clamp and simply sleeved where it met the back box. I have seen Golfs before with both the middle and rear boxes all one peice.

It's one piece on my AGU as well was well annoyed to find this out a few weeks back as I couldn't find my axle stands and really couldn't be bothered to take a chance chopping it with the widow maker.
