HU problem

It cut out on me! 

This was at a quite high volume up at 24 on my Alpine scale, I usually never go above 20.
The HU just cut out and only came back when I reduced the volume.

Was the vibrations too much for it? I mean I could feel the back of the seat vibrating!

I think its just a defence mechanism ... it cuts out and comes back on, basically telling you your sound setup can't hack it!

Does your headunit have a large on-board amplifier (i.e. 45 or 50 watts per channel)?
Had you been running it high for a prolonged period of time?

If so it's likely to be a heat issue rather than one of vibration.

Its a 4 x 60 amp in the HU -  Plus the amp for the sub and door speakers.
And no I wasnt running long a couple of tunes at normal volume than I switched to Comfortably Numb and wacked it up!
So wasnt at that volume for more than say a minute.

Just a thought - I dont think I have the sub amp set for clipping.
Could that interfere with the HU?

Len just so you know, my Alpine headunit died on me recently ... what I mean is, its got a fault, it doesn't like being used with an external amp, so keeps poppin when I move the volume knob from 0 to whatever volume. (Originally thought it was a ground issue) And everytime I change tracks ... not to mention cuts itself out when I put the volume above 21.

Now ive replaced my headunit with a delphi grundig one with all door speakers and my 10" sub connected to a amplifier, I can push the sound ridiculously high without any problems. Its suprising how a cheap setup sounds after wiring everything up and buying items that compliment each other in terms of watts/ohms!!!

Just food for thought ... you never know, the head unit may be on its way out, starting to act funny n all that ...

Hmm sounds like whats happening on mine then!

I did buy the HU secondhand so maybe it is on its way out!
Oh well will just have to moderate volume!
