sub and amp
« on: 30 January 2010, 11:04 »
ok found a nice 15" fli sub (i know theres better out there but for £30 cant go wrong)
thing is, i dont really have much experience in audio ect. so..

in the spec it says
"RMS power       400 watts
Peak power      1200 watts "

does this mean that it can be powerd by a amp with  a 400 watt output to a 1200 watt output and anywere in the middle?

and also does anyone know a good amp that i can use? i was thinking this but wasnt sure if it would work.

any help apreciated

cheers

It means you want at least 400 w RMS. You could power it with a 10000w amp if you want as long as you realise it is not a 10000 w sub, this is a mistake many people make for one reason and another.

I would always (if possible) over-spec the amp. Drive the amp comfortably rather than overload it. You'll get a better sound as the amp will be running efficiently.

Bear in mind that even 400 watts will be SILLY in a car  Especially with a 15". Lots of sub rather than defined bass. If that's the sound you're after, go for it

900 is sillier ;) lots of defined bass here though, perfectly matched ;). Come and have a listen if you fancy a drive over the other side of the malverns :)
