Lightened and balanced flywheel felt like a 30hp increase.

Where's best to take material off the flywheel to lighten it?

Another myth about the vr6 is it isn't suitable for a mk2, as its too heavy.
The corrado is a mk2 floorplan, and it copes fine with a vr6 engine. No-one ever complains about the corrado handling poorly.
The problem is the suspension, it needs uprating to cope with the vr6.
Infact the standard suspension on the mk3 isn't good enough to cope with the vr6.

too much weight up front.... handling wise the 1.8t or a tuned abf would be better

How much does the 1.8t weigh compared to the vr6?

one a lot of people also forget is tyer pressures

i'm running an abf with cabel change passat g60 syncro box so mine is quite nose heavy,   i'm getting best performance on short track sessions / road  with 35-36psi in the frounts.  a few extra psi can make find you a whole shed load of extra grip
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Just bought a Mk3 gti 16v and wanna know what i can do (within budget) to make it any quicker?

Ta :)

I have not read all the responses but I have a very quick tip on how to make this go quicker.

Put a MK2 shell around the engine and BINGO, your handling is sorted out too! :D
