Title: R32 prices
Post by: scotgc on 25 November 2008, 12:58

Im interested in getting one of these good deals on Mk5 R32's which seem to be going on everywhare but scotland ! Prices up here are going down but not as much as down south! Phoned a few stealers in manchester area who have a few just waiting on them calling back with details.

After driving my dads S3 im hooked on this 4wd loonacy, i can only imagine the V6 sound will be music to my ears and in the current climate if i can get decent trade in value for my GTI ill be making the swap to the dark side soon!

Anyone else traded in recently ? What sort of deals did you manage to get ?

I really want DBP, but I have seen new R32s for £17k so am wondering whether its worth buying a 2nd hand one - might as well get a new one.  If this is the case, I will have to settle for whatever colour is available at the time... but most probably will be DBP

There's a DBP 3 dr towards the bottom of this link for £19,490 .. might suit your spec ?

I regularly see three R32's around Sheffield, plus two in Gilders.

Got a letter today saying that it is closing down in December

Moving up to their new uber VW and Audi building at Meadowhead, so I'll be popping up there in the new year to see what it is like. I've seen the drawings at Audi Gilders on Archer lane (which is also closing!) and it looks a phenomenal building.

room for 15 VW's at one side and then another 15 Audi's at the other end. Over 30 dedicated workshop bays, a delivery suite, where they bring your car to be inspected by the customer - inside in the dry and lit!! There is a combined reception area with space for more cars.

All-in-all it sounds like a bit of a temptation to spend more

If you can live with the R32's running costs especially around inner city commuting then the R is well worth it for the money they are going for now. Someone i know just bought a R32 DSG last month, didnt know about "Launch Control" until i told him  . But the 200 miles to a tankfull is something i couldnt live with personally that he's kinda getting to grips with!.He wants to drive mine but i wont let him!!. "too fast for You" i said!!

so im not really finding a big difference in miles per tank - maybe 50miles

Im averaging 27 and only do short journeys. The fact that you have to put the more expensive pertrol in to start with would make it approximately the same cost to run. I dont hang around and still get 250miles to the tank easily and think topher said he regularily get 300.. so 200??? :undecided:
Title: Re: R32 prices

There is NO WAY on this earth that an r32 does 300 miles to a tank.Maybe if the car does 56mph with no traffic cues or stop starting will you get 300miles or doing one trip out on one complete tankful.same as i would get 380 miles to a tank if i did one journey on a motorway. (not several stop start trips)

Maybe the cars not right for topher if he gets 300 to a tankfull, perhaps he's better off in a Prius!. (now that would be funny seeing that!!)

And before you say it, if i had a v6 upfront with the delicious Sondtrack that the R has, i wouldnt drive it to get 27mpg, either that or your
bored with the sound R32uk!.The dont get the growl doing under 3000rpm.Its a thirsty motor , and having now 2 people i know that own both a manual version and DSG version, nether gets more then 250.That with the goverments stealth road tax and being it would have to be a fulltime runaround, i couldnt live with the cost personally, but if i had 15k spare and could have one to park on the lawn and use it when i felt like it, then there's no question. id have one........ in red.

I drive as fast as is physically possible to work and back and can easliy get 30mpg (16 mile round trip). Anywhere around the 270miles per full tank is about right despite the range computer saying 350 every time i fill up. If T_T can get 34mpg from an RS4 then I think 27 is very acheivable in an R32... and that doesnt involve hanging around.

What you find is that you dont actually have to take the R above 3.5k revs to really get going.

wow - I drove as fast as physically possible to work today and got 19mpg  I agree that 30mpg is possible on a long continuous run but it needs to be at least 30miles on A and motorway roads for me to see 30mpg.

However, I am able to get 30mpg more easily in my R32 than I could in my GTI. My overall average in my R32 is 24mpg and thats the best I can get. You guys in England have a lot more motorway than we do here in N Ireland so I dont get as much chance to get a long run.

I think the mk5 R32 tank holds about a gallon more than the gti.But any how in most cases the r32 only uses 2-3 mpg more than ed30.If you press it it will drink it just like the gti, however drive reasonably sensible and i can get 32+ mpg easily

There is NO WAY on this earth that an r32 does 300 miles to a tank.

There is NO WAY you can say that because you don't own one and live with it on a daily basis. This week I was annoyed because I 'only' got 260 miles from the tank before the warning light came on. It's more economical than the mk4.. FSI innit.

Like i said Topher, from two people i know that own Mk5 R's, it really depends on where you live either a country bumkin or the busy smoke, there will be a difference in your average mpg.

JonnyG...what do you think of the recaros?? Comfy or not so comfy? Sat in a type R and the bucket seats in that car have to be the most uncomfortable thing iv ever sat in! I Personally think the Recaros are rather comfortable but obviously people have mixed opinions...look forward to seeing what others think??
Title: Re: R32 prices
Post by: JonnyG on 01 December 2008, 11:27
So far I've found the Recaros quite comfortable and not too different from the standard seats.  After a two hour journey it felt as though my shoulders were being squeezed forward a bit, but other than that I felt fine with no aches or pains.  They give good support and I am slimmish ...don't know if they would suit people with a very broad back

I have noticed that despite being a 5dr, the Recaros actually tilt forward as if it was a 3 door ?  The backs also don't down tilt backwards anything like as far as the standard seats, so if you have short legs and long arms like me   they may not tilt back enough for you !

They look great but I would'nt have specced tham by choice for the price ... I had to take the spec of the car as it was to get the 5dr DSG in DPB which I really wanted.

Could do with a bit of advice please guys.......

Just come back from my local dealers having dropped the ED30 off for an oil and filter change. I took the opportunity to ask about deals on the R32 and before I knew it I was test driving a very nice delivery mileage steel grey 5dr R32 - very impressed. Anyway we started to discuss numbers based around an ED30 trade-in. My ED30 is a 3dr DSG, registered Mar 08 with 9k miles. Only options are highline and armrest. The R32 is 58 plate, delivery miles, 5dr, leather, sunroof, RCD500, parking sensors, and cruise.

First pass of the numbers and dealer offered 15k () on mine with the R32 being 23k - 8k to change. After I stopped laughing, he improved the deal to 16.5k and 22k - ie 5k to change. Better but still no where near the deals I have been reading about on here. So my question is, what is a realistic and reasonable price to end up at? I was thinking mine + 3k? Opinions gratefully received. I shall be having another chat with dealer when I pick my ED30 up from being serviced and want to leave him with a realistic proposition.

Cheers!
Title: Re: R32 prices
Post by: R32UK on 01 December 2008, 12:09
^^ I would tell your dealer that you have exactly 3k that has his name on it!! If not you will happily go somewhere else and bag a bargain.

Take the best price he would give you on your ED30, and then ring around all your other local dealers and see what the lowest price they will give you on an R32. I would then use this to bring your dealer well down in his prices.
Title: Re: R32 prices
Post by: topher on 01 December 2008, 12:14
Your car + 3k isn't a totally ridiculous proposition, but bare in mind these 'deals' people have jumped on were always supposed to be time limited, so don't be shocked if your dealer doesn't want to let a brand new car go for that. Even 22k is a good deal for a car like that.
Title: Re: R32 prices
Post by: JonnyG on 01 December 2008, 12:15
Based on my deal I reckon you should be looking for a difference of around £4,000 or less to trade up.  I would expect around £16,500 for yours (being DSG) and around £20,500 or slightly less for the R32.  My invoice shows an £8,000 discount on the R32 list price, although I worked it out at about £7,500 based on the VW UK website configurator.

Having said that the dealer is now selling my car at less than the trade in price they gave me   I can't believe it ... someone is going to get a bargain....£14995 for a year old ED30.   They must have still made some profit on the R32 to enable that

Anyone think I should be able to get a good specified late 07 or 08 R32 for a max of £5k trade in....? Motorpoint want £8k on an 2008 ....they are  currently offering £9.5k on a trade in...I think thats crap since they only take account of the basics and none of the toys. (I know I know, dont lecture me about the value of extras). That said the WHOLE market is on its @rse.

Fully loaded Red DSG, 55 my06, sunroof, dsg, xenons, ABT sides/rear, highline, winter, lux, cruise, parking sensors, satnav, r32 wheels/skirts, colour coded, leather, 6 cd, armrest, milltek, 31,000 miles?

I may be dreaming,...still....

Don't forget today is a new month so different deals will be available. The closer to the end of the month you get the better the deal you will be offered if they haven't met their sales targets. 1st of December today also means lower VAT as well

Minor update.......been back to the dealer and said my car + 3k. They're gonna think about it. We're now 2.5k adrift so a deal around 4k to change would be great - if not then it wasn't meant to be. The ED30 is still a great car after all and I haven't owned it long enough yet to truely appreciate it - so I wouldn't be too gutted.

I haven't mentioned the new VAT rate yet to the dealer - was hoping to use that as the clincher :)

I think and its purely biased probably but your mad buying an R32 at the moment, road tax going up to £400 release of the mk6's with a special R on the way i reckon the mk5 will deperiate even more and when you tire of it it will be worth even less, for me some of you are seeing this as an investment of sorts, if your and ed30 owner and thinking of swapping to an R32 i would say no.

Per month on a car loan, need circa 8k to change......so no way can I afford to change for new just now

Hang tough NGClubs!!! The price drop will eventually filter down to the bonnie north.. will just take a little longer thats all.

Not to mention that I got mine just after a serious drop in the cost of leasing the R32.. so over the next 6 months you will see alot of these cars going back to the dealers, giving them even more incentive to sell you one at dirt cheap

when i went to the dealers he was telling me they didn`thave a choice in taking the r32`s they were told they were having them from vw. the dealer in peterborough had 5 i think he only has one left.
how many do you think vw has in stock?
maybe they are running low now so harder to get a good deal?

I think and its purely biased probably but your mad buying an R32 at the moment

OK, I'm mad

but I'm loving every minute of my madness so far

I don't think anyone is buying the R32 as an investment  ....  it's just the last chance to buy a new R32 at a price that is now lower than ED30 prices were.

Thats why I bought mine in a hurry... don't think these cars will be out there for too long. Of course, next year they'ill be even cheaper, but not new.

Well, the deed is done but not with the local dealer. They wouldn't budge from my car + 5.5k to change. So I rang round and sourced an alternative vehicle - very similar spec : delivery miles, dsg, leather, 5dr, steel gray, privacy glass, mfsw, parking sensors, from a dealer in Slough. Asking price was more realistic to start with so managed to settle on my car + 4k. Left a holding deposit over the phone - will view the car tomorrow to make sure its as described and then its just a case of logistics.

Still a bit shocked with myself as the decision is really heart over head, but then I have always hankered after a R32 and this is the last chance to get a new one.

Dealer claimed that this is the most busy hes been with respect to selling R32s - from my investigations the dsg variants are certainly being snapped up quick.

Nice one, congratulations

Very similar decision to my recent purchase...(heart over head etc)..but now my head also agrees with my heart

Hope all goes smoothly with the purchase  .. and don't forget the 3 year service plan for £225  ... bit of a no brainer if you intend to keep the car.

The DSG's are great, and seem to be selling fast as you say.  These were all for sale a few weeks ago and were on my watch list !  :

Exactly the reason why I got another - ok so I have no money in my account as we enter a serious recession, but at least I'ill be broke and happy

My first one was a DSG and I was after one this time - though for the wife because she didn't want manual - but had to settle for manual as I got an excellent deal - and wanted manual to be able to turbo it in a few years time.  However, I have a funny feeling that the DSG is really suited to the V6 engine in the R32 and makes it extra special...

^^^^im quite sure people who buy cars of a certain type ie-R32s GTIs know that you loose quite a bit of money on brand new cars unless they are walking round in cloud cookoo land. Also as proven with the sudden influx of new members on R32OC their is always a buyer for such a great all round packaged car no matter what the tree huggers and goverment try and force us  to drive round with hairdryer engines in our car.Long live the R32

Glad someone posts over there....its a bit of a slow show.....i occasionally post as well, but there it just doesn't seem the same interactive experience.....perhaps they are all out driving their great cars rather than posting........or spending so much money on petrol....they can't afford the monthly broadband cost.....

I want one too though, one of these days I may stop posting myself....

That said, the 911 (996) costs are looking bleedin' tempting too just now, however the servicing and parts costs scare the living daylights out of me.
