Could do with a bit of advice please guys.......

Just come back from my local dealers having dropped the ED30 off for an oil and filter change. I took the opportunity to ask about deals on the R32 and before I knew it I was test driving a very nice delivery mileage steel grey 5dr R32 - very impressed. Anyway we started to discuss numbers based around an ED30 trade-in. My ED30 is a 3dr DSG, registered Mar 08 with 9k miles. Only options are highline and armrest. The R32 is 58 plate, delivery miles, 5dr, leather, sunroof, RCD500, parking sensors, and cruise.

First pass of the numbers and dealer offered 15k ( :shocked:) on mine with the R32 being 23k - 8k to change. After I stopped laughing, he improved the deal to 16.5k and 22k - ie 5k to change. Better but still no where near the deals I have been reading about on here. So my question is, what is a realistic and reasonable price to end up at? I was thinking mine + 3k? Opinions gratefully received. I shall be having another chat with dealer when I pick my ED30 up from being serviced and want to leave him with a realistic proposition.

^^ I would tell your dealer that you have exactly 3k that has his name on it!! If not you will happily go somewhere else and bag a bargain.

Take the best price he would give you on your ED30, and then ring around all your other local dealers and see what the lowest price they will give you on an R32. I would then use this to bring your dealer well down in his prices.

Your car + 3k isn't a totally ridiculous proposition, but bare in mind these 'deals' people have jumped on were always supposed to be time limited, so don't be shocked if your dealer doesn't want to let a brand new car go for that. Even 22k is a good deal for a car like that.

Based on my deal I reckon you should be looking for a difference of around £4,000 or less to trade up.  I would expect around £16,500 for yours (being DSG) and around £20,500 or slightly less for the R32.  My invoice shows an £8,000 discount on the R32 list price, although I worked it out at about £7,500 based on the VW UK website configurator.

Having said that the dealer is now selling my car at less than the trade in price they gave me  :shocked:  I can't believe it ... someone is going to get a bargain....£14995 for a year old ED30.   They must have still made some profit on the R32 to enable that  :laugh:

Anyone think I should be able to get a good specified late 07 or 08 R32 for a max of £5k trade in....? Motorpoint want £8k on an 2008 ....they are  currently offering £9.5k on a trade in...I think thats crap since they only take account of the basics and none of the toys. (I know I know, dont lecture me about the value of extras). That said the WHOLE market is on its @rse.

Fully loaded Red DSG, 55 my06, sunroof, dsg, xenons, ABT sides/rear, highline, winter, lux, cruise, parking sensors, satnav, r32 wheels/skirts, colour coded, leather, 6 cd, armrest, milltek, 31,000 miles?

I may be dreaming,...still.... :rolleyes:

Don't forget today is a new month so different deals will be available. The closer to the end of the month you get the better the deal you will be offered if they haven't met their sales targets. 1st of December today also means lower VAT as well  :smiley:
