Title: My Day of Tweaking (MK5 Related)
Post by: SteveP on 17 October 2008, 22:11
After the JKM rolling road day I spoke with the provider of my remap (Richter Sport of Milton Keynes who provide a variant of the superchips map) about the results to get there comments/thoughts. They where surprised as they felt it should have been pushing the 300bhp mark (It ran 278bhp on the day).

So they offered to have a look at the car which they did today.

First order of the day was to download the existing map from the car for comparison purposes, we then drove from Milton Keynes to Superchips in Buckingham with VAG COM connected to log the car to see how things where running, they observed some issues with the ignition?

They reviewed the logs and map file with the techies from Superchips and made some tweaks.

Firstly they flashed the car back to stock and then re-applied the new map.

They popped it on the rollers (same ones Telboy's ran 282bhp at the start of last week) and hay presto a very healthy -

303.7 BHP and 366Nm Torque

Graphs to follow shortly.

They then followed this up with some further logging via VAG COM to confirm everything was running sweetly (which it was).

I know with these kind of things there is the "placebo" effect but I definatly feel the car is smoother and pulls better through out most of the rev range

So I am now one very happy Richter Sport customer and would defiantly recommend them to anyone considering a remap or OEM ICE retrofit for their MK5 as their service was exceptional, especially to Scott who took most of the day to complete this work with me and talk me through everything they where doing :afro and to Neil who gave me a demo of their very  Passat Wagon with lots of nice ABT kit and the new VW MDI iPod (finally VW have a fully working iPod adapter).

Also thanks to Jamie at Superchips for his hospitality at their offices and time he took to talk to me about remapping and the work they are looking to do for the DSG box in the near future!

Why did they not run your car 1st before removing their Map???, then you could compare  and see if you are now getting 300+  :undecided:

It was just a timing thing that we didn't do it really as there was a Poxhall Ashtray from Thorney Motor Sport ungoing some checks on the rollers so he reloaded the map while we where waiting.

Anyway Telboy's figures from the Superchips Rollers where very similar to his results from JKM (both stock and dodgy map).

Richter do adjust the maps as required, so If I was (aloud ) to get a TBE Miltek, which Richter also can supply and fit, then they can adjust things to suit my car

Sounds like a result there

Just a thought though, 366nm is 270lbft - Do Richter restrict the torque for DSG tuning as most remaps (V-tec's = 350lbft+ = 475nm+) get over 300lbft = 400nm+ ?

Nice one Steve!

Would be good to see if go for another run on JKM's rollers for a direct comparison, but no doubt that things have improved!!

LOL, I am sure on the Dyno Dynamics rollers @ Weston Performance it will have a lower reading anyway so the mug could still be yours

Yep the torque is quite a bit lower than other tuners remaps and they do also restricted a bit more for DSG cars over the manual transmission version.

This is just their baseline for a car without any other mods, if I go the TBE Milltek route they have said that the good improvements can be made in this area.

You will have a PM in about 30 seconds

I don't mind either way mate

Indeed I do , I even tried saying to the SWMBO when I got back yesterday that the garage said I really needed one and that it would save money in the long term as it had the lifetime warranty etc

I did get some progress as it was agreed IF my tax bill for last year wasn't as bad as expected then i MIGHT be granted to some budget to get one

Good to hear you've got sorted with the power you should have mate. Although this doesn't do SC any favours with yet another car needing to be mapped twice to get it's proper power (how many other owners are out there not knowing this I wonder  :undecided:)..
Like has been said already, ideally you need to get back on the SAME rollers (JKM) to see if there is a 25bhp difference.. Should be though, after all you pay your monies...

id rather do Cosmetic mods rather then Performance mods. Much prefer what youve done their Raj with your rear end Mod. Theres

always a chance of Breaking things when you performance mod, as Hurdy and Redrobin know very well. You take a chance.

Yep remapping an is ED30 great and gives some very good results but like Shaun says your recent cosmetic mods are very very

Depends how far you take the modding I suppose.. I'm the opposite to a certain degree. Although I do like subtle cosmetic mods, much prefer having an extra stable full of horses when my right foot commands..

....Depending on how far you go with performance modding, I don't think the chances of 'breaking' things is particularly greater. Some mods actually prolong the life of your car (PTFE bushes for example). A stainless steel exhaust will last longer than a stock one

Being constructed from so many varying components, it's a wonder that more doesn't 'break' on a car than it does.
